High Performance HDTV: A Suite of Technologies

DLNA/Wi-Fi Ready
Connect this DLNA-compatible VIERA HDTV and DLNA-compatible AV equipment to your home network, and you can watch movies, listen to music, and view photos from any room in the house. VIERA HDTV's Wi-Fi capability gives you even more layout flexibility. The E5 series is Wi-Fi ready and requires a separate wireless LAN adaptor. * Wireless LAN adaptor not included with purchase.

360 Backlight Scanning
By increasing the panel refresh to 120Hz with a 3-phase backlight system, crystals are more active and responsive than 120Hz standard systems to minimize image softening under motion. 360 backlight scanning allows for smooth images, without flicker, even in fast-moving scenes. Afterimages are thoroughly reduced by finer blinking.

IPS LED Panel
The IPS LED panel delivers a wide viewing angle with almost no picture degradation at off angle viewing. Get high contrast performance fast response time with the E5 series IPS LED Clear panel.

Environmentally Friendly

Panasonic is committed to producing HDTVs that are mindful of the environment. The new and improved high efficient LED/LCD panels reduce targeted power consumption up to 25% over the 2011 models. The E5 series is Energy Star certified and has a long-life panel.

This TV provides an excellent picture, with a very wide viewing angle (for an LCD). However...

On page 63 of the manual, it says "The TV's internal software was designed to work with Panasonic's wireless adapter model DY-WL10." After trying three non-Panasonic wireless adapters just to see if they would work (they wouldn't), I purchased the Panasonic adapter, but, as the other reviewer discovered, the TV would not recognize the DY-WL10. Panasonic's Netconnect site covers only 2011 television models--nothing about 2012 models.

When I called Panasonic Support today, I was told that, no, the DY-WL10 isn't compatible with any of the 2012 Panasonic models. The model that the support rep recommended is the DY-WL5, which isn't available yet; I can't find it on Amazon, or even on Panasonic's own site. B&H Photo lists it for pre-order with a March 31st availability date. So, at least until that date, this TV cannot use a wireless connection.

Backup plan: I used... Read more

Really great tv. Perfect size for my office/studio. Picture quality is excellent. I calibrated the tv using settings I found with a quick google search. Sound is ok, but as with most flat screens it lacks a really impressive on board audio set up. Xbox 360 games look incredible. I've been playing Skyrim and Battlefield 3 and am blown away by the picture. I fired up amazon prime (through Viera Cast) and watched Troll Hunter in HD. Again, beautiful picture (and awesome low budget Norweigian movie).

And now a more niche consideration. I am an illustrator by trade and use a Wacom tablet and photoshop in my day to day work. I purchased this tv with the intention of utilizing it as a third, large scale monitor for certain projects. A big reason I went for this particular tv is the LED screen. I find it is much easier on my eyes when I am painting on screen for hours on end.

So there you have it. Beautiful image quality, a decent service lineup (Netflix, Prime, etc.),... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars why 4 stars, March 17, 2012

This is a GREAT TV. Unlike most reviews on SMART TVs Netflix streams fine for me, wired with 1.5Megs. The other big complaint on most TVs is the flat screen small speaker audio, by setting the treble down and the bass up it is OK. There is also a bass boost setting and the audio is much better than most. The wide viewing angle and IPS Screen work great but the video default settings are not very good out of the box. With HD service and some tweaking, the video is exceptional now.I was unable to find suggested settings, for this new of TV, on the web. I have had major issues with Panasonic's phone customer service in the past, they act like they are doing you a favor and always find a way to tell you no or they make it so difficult you give up. I was looking for these settings and thought I would try email customer service. 4 days later, without getting an answer, I tried Chat. All three answers started with I am sorry and a web address that "might" help. That is what I want a little... Read more
