The King is a second generation system, with the TTL-control based upon the Knight first released in 2009. Like the Pixel Knight, it does not support the Canon wireless protocol(eg:it can not work as ST-E2 to trigger 430EX flash in remote mode), but works by making the remote flash think it is in the camera's hot-shoe.
The body is similar to the Pixel Bishop. It uses the 2.4 GHz frequency (unregulated worldwide), and Pixel indicates that has a reach of around 100 meters. The King provides 7 selectable channels and 3 different groups. For power, both the TX and RX use two AA-sized batteries. Both the TX and RX have a USB-socket to allow firmware updates. Both the TX and RX have a hot-shoe. The RX hot-shoe is for mounting remote Speedlites. However, the TX hot-shoe is not a TTL pass-through shoe, and can not be used to mount an additional Speedlite. Instead Pixel has hinted that they may later introduce a separate control unit (dubbed N-ETTL) that can be mounted in the TX hot-shoe and used like the PocketWizard AC3 Zone Controller.
Additional Features:
The TX has very sparse controls. To set it up you use the camera's external flash func. setting-menu. The following Canon EOS bodies are listed as compatible: 450D, 500D, 550D, 600D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 7D, 5D II, 1D III, 1D IV, 1Ds III. Older Canon DSLRs does not let you control the flash from the camera menu, and compatibility is limited to selecting channel and group on TX. It will then dumb down and operate like a wireless grouping flash trigger such as the Pixel Bishop.

Tried it with my 580EX flash and Canon 5d MK II.
After initial power-on it works fine but after that it consistently under and overexposes by 2-3 stops. Clearly, the communication between the camera and flash are not happening after the initial exposure. I tried re-configuring channels and groups and no change in behavior.
Also, it does not work with NiMH AA batteries. It wouldn't power on until I put alkaline AA. This is likely because it requires 1.5v / battery instead of the 1.2v you get out of NiMH. The thing is, it's rated to work with 1.2v batteries.
Anyway, it might work for you depending on your camera and flash but it doesn't work for me...

Someone me about a firmware upgrade. Spent 15 minutes nosing around on their site and finally found it. Unfortunately, the usb plug and play in windows 7 does not recognize the transmitter or receiver device so the firmware upgrade utility was unable to proceed... Read more

After reading so many good reviews of the PIXEL King trigger and receiver, I purchased it from Amazon. I purchased the item three times. After the batterries were installed, the indicator was not lit and the trigger or receiver was not functional at all. I thought the item was defective. I returned the first two and when the third one came, the same thing happended again! Something was wrong. Finally I found the problem. in China, usually the spring is for the "-" end of the battery. In the first kit, when I installed the battery this way in the transmitter, it worked but not with the receiver. The second kit, neither transmitter nor receiver worked. With the third kit, I looked closely inside and found the "+" and "-" signs. It's so hard to see. One spring is for "+" end of the battery and the other for "-" end. Maybe I'm stupid, but I think PIXEL should make the sign more visible and make the spring always for the "-" end of the battery.
